Modern Day Disney Princesses : Animation To REAL Life!

When I think of a Princess, I immediately think of Disney and the many Disney Princesses who have been such a huge part of my life growing up. From Ariel, The Little Mermaid who was brave enough to explore an unknown world above the sea to Mulan, whose courage reassures women that they are every bit as capable as men.

Many women of my generation have grown up with these animated role models who are female and fearless, who aren’t just damsels in distress, but strong women who face adversity straight on, be it fleeing from a wicked stepmother and setting up house with seven little men or fighting the Manchurian army and gaining the respect of the emperor and the entire nation.

Modern day Princesses, however, are the true inspiration for this blog of mine. This is because I truly believe that deep down, every girl would like to be treated like a Princess.

And we should rightly be treated like Princesses because like Cinderella who wasn’t born royal and slept next to cinders, many of of us hope to meet our Prince Charming someday. However, I firmly believe that one shouldn’t pine away waiting for Prince Charming to complete our lives because we don’t need him to be happy. Modern Princesses should live their lives before loving their Prince Charming.

Do modern day Princesses exist in real life? The sure do. And below are my top 3 picks:

1) Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge

The Duchess of Cambridge is married to Prince William, second in line to the throne of England. She met him while studying Art History at The University of St. Andrews. Kate, as she is fondly known to her adoring subjects, is often praised for her effortless style. She reportedly did her own makeup for her wedding in 2011.

Upon graduating from university, she joined the family business, Party Pieces, and oversaw marketing and photography as well as catalogue design and production for First Birthdays, a junior brand to Party Pieces. Currently, in between being a mother to Prince George and Princess Charlotte, she finds time to partake in philanthropic work through her foundation, The Royal Foundation of The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge.

2) Crown Princess Mary of Denmark

This stylish mother of four, married to Crown Prince Frederik of Denmark did a double major in Commerce and Law at The University of Tasmania in Australia. Upon graduation, she worked for both Australian and global advertising agencies. She met Crown Prince Frederik at a pub in Sydney whilst he was visiting during the Sydney Summer Olympics in 2000.

Crown Princess Mary’s philanthropic work extends to the International Committee of Women Leaders for Mental Health and the United Nations Population Fund, “to support the agency’s work to promote maternal health and safer motherhood in more than 150 developing nations”.

3) Ivanka Trump

Ivanka is the daughter of prominent business man and media personality Donald Trump. She is a savvy business woman in her own right. Together with her brothers Donald Junior and Eric, she works within the family owned Trump Organisation as its executive vice president of development and acquisitions. She also has her own jewellery line and clothing line, Ivanka Trump Fine Jewellery and Ivanka Trump Collection.

Ivanka has popularised the hashtag #WomenWhoWork to promote the modern day wife and mother who strive to raise a family alongside a thriving career. She’s a mother to Arabella 4 and Joseph 2 with a third child on the way. She is married to the illustrious Jared Kushner, who is a publisher and a real estate developer. They live in New York City. Ivanka attended the Wharton School at The University of Pennsylvania and majored in Economics where she graduated cum laude in 2004.

Modern day Princesses study and work hard. They attend the top universities in various parts of the world. Some met their Prince Charming in university. What sets them apart is that they lead interesting lives and work hard at their careers and support causes they believe in before and after marrying their prince charming.

I hope this post has inspired you to be a modern day princess who lives life before loving her Prince Charming, someone who shoots for the stars and goes all out to achieve her many dreams! Good luck!

Till next time,
